The works included a full internal reconfiguration of the Mews House, creating special architectural interest by improving the scale and volume within the property. All floor levels were moved to improve internal head-height; with the lower ground floor level dropped and the garage converted into habitable space to be utilized as an open-plan kitchen and dining area, thus improving the quality of the existing accommodation. The existing garage door was refurbished with an additional band of windows that retain their original character from the Mews, in-keeping with the Conservation Area.
The focal point of the interior is the new staircase which traverses the entire height of the building and arriving at the new floor created in the attic. The five-storey void is lit by the existing openings of the front façade, with Crittall doors separating the principal living spaces and roof lights illuminating the new fourth floor. The outcome maximises the full width and depth of the floorplan and generates an exciting flow of well-connected spaces for the family dwelling, with all four bedrooms served by Ensuites.
Rodic Davidson Architects gained a Lawful Development Certificate and secured planning consent from Westminster Council, and Landlord consent from Grosvenor Estates Freehold. Management of the wider professional team included Interior Designer (KS Studio), Structural Engineer, and AV/Security. Construction by R&G began in Summer 2020.
